Performance Management
An effective performance management system allows you to engage your employees by establishing a true pay-for-performance culture. By communicating and aligning company goals to employees while setting achievable performance expectations, the company's compensation system is linked to actual individual and / or team performance.
Engaged, productive employees are essential to any company outperforming its competition by increasing morale, creating loyalty and increasing overall productivity.
Although many different types of performance management programs exist, most can be generalized into the following cycle:
- Goals and objectives are defined and communicated to the employee
- Management provides ongoing observation and coaches individuals on performance regarding the achievement of goals
- Appraisal where individual performance is formally documented, feedback delivered and appropriately compensated. If performance meets or exceeds the desired performance standard, then a reward is given. If performance does not meet the desired performance standards, then a performance development plan to address the performance gap is created
- Repeat the cycle
Performance management is the measurement of activities to ensure that a company's goals are being met in an effective and efficient manner to ensure success. Performance management can focus on the performance of the organization, a department, employees or a combination of all of the above.
