Performance Evaluation:

The performance evaluation is an opportunity for an employee and his or her supervisor to meet and discuss the employee's job performance within an established period of time. The review will include a discussion regarding the achievement of a set of goals previously established. It may include a 360-degree review, or assessments from the employee's supervisor, peers, subordinates and customers as well as a self-assessment. The performance evaluation should be a time to focus on increased communication, establishing clear expectations and reinforcing good performance while improving unsatisfactory performance. From a supervisor's point of view, it is also an opportunity to document specific criteria for salary increases, promotions or disciplinary actions. It also involves the process of setting new or revised goals with a plan of action for the next period.
