Hello, and welcome to People Performance Radio, sponsored by SuccessFactors, the global leader in performance and talent management software solutions. Without further ado, please allow me to introduce Dr Steve and Jim "The Mad Dog" Matheson!
Welcome back to People Performance Radio, you're here with your host, Jim Matheson …
… and Steve Hunt.
Steve, we're here with just a quick short episode, we've got a big announcement—are you ready?
Yeah, I'm ready.
Are you ready?
I'm ready.
All right—tell them what the big announcement is, Steve.
The big announcement is, I don't know, it's pretty exciting actually—People Performance Radio, for those few of you that have been listening since we started, we sort of started out with this idea that we really wanted to created a forum for talking more about talent management, and learning what's going on out there, and figuring out, to be honest, as we go along, certainly some of the earlier episodes are a little painful for me to listen to, I don't know about you, Jim?
I don't listen to them, I try not to.
Exactly, it's kind of like going back and reading things you wrote in high school! But what we're going to be doing for, probably for quite a while, is we're going to be tapping into a network of people that we've had a chance to get to know as a result of working here at SuccessFactors that really have very innovative ideas around talent management, and what we're really looking to do is a series of interviews that are focusing on things that are really thought-provoking, different things about talent management. If you follow talent management at all, you hear the same things over and over again, which are true—there's a growing labor shortage, retirement, generational differences, the importance of competencies—which are all true and important, but it's kind of like, "Yes, we've heard this, over and over again now".
What are the things that are happening in talent management, not necessarily huge things, some of them might be, but things that people aren't thinking about as much, what are the things that are out there that people are focusing on, they're saying, "This is different—this is not business as usual, this is a different way of doing things", and we're going to be talking to a bunch of people that specialize in different areas of the talent management space, and really asking that question, to say, "What can you say" (for want of a better term) "that might surprise our listening audience, to say, "You know—never thought of that", and so we're going to be starting that off very soon. Can you tell more about the format, Jim?
Yeah, the format is just, we're going to be talking with both, we actually have, as you mentioned, SuccessFactors Research has put together a team of Thought Leaders, and we're going to tap into them, we're going to be talking to some of them, and we're also going to be talking to probably a few other folks out there in the industry. So the format is really, Steve, you're going to be interviewing these folks, and asking them a series of questions, some unique to what their experiences are, and others are sort of a little bit candid, kind of see what people are thinking in terms of the future of our industry, so pretty much the format's going to be, Steve's going to take over the show, I'm going to fade into the background, and I think, I'm actually pretty confident that we are going to increase our listenership at least two-fold—that's my prediction.
I think that's accurate, and one thing I would say, first, I hope Jim doesn't fade into the background! The second thing is, I rely on your emotional support, Jim.
Well, I could still be here for that.
All right. The second thing I'd say too, to those of you in our listening audience, if you feel that you have some really provocative idea, something that you're passionate about that you think the world should be thinking more about related to talent management, please contact us, there's a good chance we'll get you on the show. We're giving you a soap box, we're giving you chance to get up and scream to the world, "We need to be thinking more about this!", so if you don't mind me asking you questions about why we should be thinking more about whatever it is you're going on about, we would love to have you on the show, so now's a great time to get yourself some publicity, so I'm opening up the world to all those wackos in talent management that just need to be heard.
Definitely. Just send us an email: podcast@successfactors.com or you can call us, leave us a voicemail, at 206-203-4521.
We reserve the right to refuse service standards when we think it's too loony!
Right, but since I'm on the show, standards are probably pretty low. So, if you leave us a nice voicemail, I guarantee you it'll most likely, pretty sure, possibly, probably, get onto the air.
I just have one last thing before we end this short show, as I head my way out the door for a vacation, and that is, I had just a quick interview with James Hendy from Driven Systems, and they have a new site called Talent Social, which I thought was pretty interesting, it's sort of like a social networking site for our industry, so I would urge you to take a look at the site and give this just short two-minute interview a listen.
I'm here today with James Hendy from Driven Systems. Thanks for joining us.
Thanks Jim, thanks for having me.
So you wanted to talk a little bit about this new site you guys have coming out called talentsocial.com?
That's right, yeah, it's a new community-based site, we're just trying to share as much knowledge and news across the talent industry, get guys talking to each other, share ideas, and thought leadership. There's two elements to the site, we've got Talent Social, which is predominantly for community news and knowledge, and then there's talk.talentsocial.com, which is predominantly more chat, more of a Facebook feel to it.
It looks like on the social site, you've got industry blogs, you can tag different things, it looks like you guys have been uploading some videos?
That's right, yeah, so if any contributors out there are interested in getting involved, either on an informal basis or more of a formal basis, just get in touch—it'd be great to hear from you.
Yeah, it looks great, it looks like you guys have education, presentations, some business information, news about technology, so definitely, for those of you who are listening, take a look at talentsocial.com, or the sub-domain, which is talk.talentsocial.com, and sign up there, and join the community.
Great, thanks Jim.
Thanks for joining us James.
No problem.
