Born:
Boston, MA - the cradle of Liberty!

Prior Experience:

ADP - Various roles from Salesperson to Vice President

Education:
Studied Journalism at Syracuse University (Newhouse School) left for family responsibilities and never looked back.

What I like to do outside of work:
My family is my raison d'être and most of my weekends consist of taking in New York with my 5 year old daughter on my shoulders. My wife and I enjoy the theater, summers in Rhode Island and Yoga.

Q: Where in your background did you learn the most?
A: Early on I learned the power of goals in both personal and business endeavors while at ADP. Additionally, I learned that ultimately, organizations exist for people to live their lives through (partly). I also learned the importance of being a lifelong learner, the importance of treating all with respect and that taking care of customers is the best thing any salesperson can do to ensure success.

Q: If you could meet one person in history, who would you meet and why?
A: I recall John Kennedy is quoted as saying at a 1962 White House dinner for Nobel Prize winners: "I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone." I think it would be Jefferson I'd like to meet though if JFK showed up he'd be most welcome.

Q: What's been your biggest surprise during your time at SuccessFactors?
A: There is a lot of fanfare about our "no jerks" culture and what has been absolutely refreshing is that it's true. We're all human beings and sometimes behavior can be aberrant to this but the Culture is so strong that we call "foul" on ourselves when this happens and quickly make amends. No jerks - you bet it's true here!

Q: If you had 20 seconds to tell a new client about why they should use SuccessFactors, what would you say?
A: The promise of what can be achieved with SuccessFactors is so strong (aligning goals at the individual level to the company of CEO level, creating a true pay for performance culture, increasing employee engagement which begets greater enthusiasm, passion and execution) and it all can be delivered by SuccessFactors and we've proven it well over a thousand times. We can do it for you, and with you, too!

Q: Why do you believe in the promise of Performance & Talent Management?
A: I've been the beneficiary at other enlightened companies (or working with strong, positive leaders within not-so-enlightened companies) so I know it works. I also want to be part of bringing this reality to more and more people.

Q: Do you have a story or memory of how P&TM has helped you in your career?
A: In every organization that I've had the opportunity to lead we have always ensured that goal setting and clarity of mission were part of our culture. I'm fond of saying that I like to "feed the lions" which means that those who are engaged with passion (either leading via their personal performance or helping to make everyone around them better with good intention driving that) and to me this is an essential part of pay for performance - in all its forms.

Q: Why are you proud to work at SuccessFactors?
A: At this point in my career I want to be here, right now, making a contribution. I am proud that SuccessFactors has invested in me so that I can do that.
