What I like to do outside of work:
My free time takes me away from software and human resources. I especially enjoy hiking in the early morning along the bay or in the redwoods. I also recharge with a jog through downtown Mountain View or at Shoreline Park. I'm a voracious reader, especially of James Patterson, Carl Hiaasen and other fluff!
Q: Where in your background did you learn the most?
A: I learned the most at TogetherSoft. I had a fabulous mentor there, Steve Morrison, our Chief Legal Officer. Steve has a flair for the unusual in the usual. He made international acquisitions fun instead of a chore. After doing 3 in 6 months, our company had doubled and we had a blast! Steve taught me to think about the business, not just my pod in the business. He was generous and attentive mentor - and still is my friend.
Q: If you could meet one person in history, who would you meet and why?
A: John Muir - what an eye for preservation! We could all learn form his example - his appreciation for the natural world, an excellent reminder in today's automated world.
Q: What's been your biggest surprise during your time at SuccessFactors?
A: The sheer breadth and depth of talent shocked me on my first day - and continues to amaze me. The people here are amazing! I have faith in Lars' statement that our worst person is better that our competitors' best!
Q: If you had 20 seconds to tell a new client about why they should use SuccessFactors, what would you say?
A: If you want to make Performance & Talent Management real in your company to each and every person, you need SuccessFactors! We make the process come alive.
Q: Why do you believe in the promise of Performance & Talent Management?
A: I believe that every employee has the fundamental need to stretch, to perform and to be recognized. Think Maslow's hierarchy of needs & you get it.
Q: Do you have a story or memory of how P&TM has helped you in your career?
A: In another life, there were three HR Directors in the company - each with comparable responsibilities - but I was paid the least - and was doing 3 times the column of work and with higher quality (faster time to hire, better quality of hire, lower turnover, fewer leaves, higher employee survey results). My manager very quickly told me that he saw my performance and would make it right. The next week I was promoted got a 20% pay raise and a bonus. He had my loyalty because he got it!"
Q: Why are you proud to work at SuccessFactors?
A: I am thrilled to work at SuccessFactors since it's an incredible opportunity to contribute to the broader performance and talent management field. No other company offers the opportunity to engage with clients (in both a sales and support role) for something so dramatically important. I have a passion for the field - and here I can make a difference.
